“So many brilliant people” — Meghan Hall, 2024 Carole Anne Soucie Memorial Scholarship recipient

Meghan Hall (’26), this year’s recipient of the Carole Anne Soucie Memorial Scholarship, came to Plymouth State from Bedford, New Hampshire already taking herself seriously as a writer and reader, and has availed herself of opportunities to cultivate her skills and passions further in the PSU English program. She feels challenged to learn and grow in the writing and literature courses in Plymouth State University’s English program and credits the individual attention and support from professors as an especially positive aspect of the program.

Outside of classes, Meghan has had rich and rewarding experiences with the student group, PSU Poets and Writers, which hosts regular creative writing events and publishes the campus literary journal, Centripetal. “Poets and Writers is such an amazing creative outlet on campus filled with so many brilliant people,” Meghan says. “I always love dropping in and challenging myself with some new writing prompts or experiencing the phenomenal work of other writers and artists on campus and in the local area at our open mic nights.”

Meghan recently got an internship in the film industry, and looks forward to bringing the knowledge she gains in her English classes into different creative positions. “The Carole Anne Soucie Memorial Scholarship is going to help me accomplish my goals by helping me take a small step back and refocus myself on my creative writing goals this summer. I hope to publish more poetry, prose, and photography in various different literary magazines this summer and into the fall semester, as well.”

The Carole Anne Soucie Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to one deserving Plymouth State University English major who demonstrates a commitment to writing and the arts, as Carole did, through their academic efforts and involvement in related extracurricular activities.
