“I couldn’t have picked a better school.” — Liam Leavitt, 2024 recipient of the Mary Rita Hyde ’62 Memorial Endowed English Scholarship

Liam Leavitt (’26) hit the ground running as soon as he arrived at Plymouth State as an English Education major in the Fall of 2022. In addition to his studies in literature and writing, Liam has been involved in student government, new student orientation, the Remedial Herstory Project and National History Day, Vocal Order (a capella group), the PSU Chamber Singers, the PSU Brass Ensemble, the Future Alumni Board, and the English major group MESA (Mentoring Enhances Student Achievement). In Spring of 2024, Liam was elected PSU Student Body President.

If anyone can manage serving as student body president while spending a semester studying abroad in Freiburg, Germany, it’s Liam. He says that the Mary Rita Hyde ‘62 scholarship will help make this experience affordable and “will significantly help me broaden my global perspective and translate these experiences into my writing and teaching.”

The Salem, New Hampshire native has high praise for the PSU English faculty and students as well as for PSU as a whole: “I couldn’t have picked a better school.”

The Mary Rita Hyde ’62 Memorial Endowed English Scholarship honors the contributions of Rita Hyde and memorializes her life. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time English major planning to become an English teacher who has an academic record demonstrating past success and promising future achievement.
