PSU Poets & Writers and Centripetal Updates & Events & Deadlines
Open Mic: The first open mic of the semester will happen this Friday, March 3, from 12 – 2pm. It will be on the lower level of Lamson Library, located behind the Commons Café. There will be free coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts! The Student Art Collective (SAC) will also be vending jewelry and art from local student artists. Part open mic, part art market, part coffee break. (For the Groovy Noodle stans – don’t fret! Thursday open mics will be back later in the semester!)
Guest Speaker: Poets and Writers is hosting a guest speaker next week! Kevin Devaney is a traveling poet, bookbinder, and entrepreneur. You may remember him from one of our fall open mics, or as the typewriter guy in front of Monte Alto. He will be running a workshop on performance poetry, as well as a Q&A about his experience as a full-time poet. This event will take place on Wednesday, March 8, at 6pm, in Frost Commons. All students are welcome, and I’d love to see you all there!
Centripetal: Centripetal submissions are OPEN! Send up to 4 pieces of writing and/or 4 pieces of art to psupoetsandwriters@gmail.com. Max word limit is 4000 words per submission. The deadline to submit is March 19, which is the Sunday of spring break.
English Department Game Night
Save the date – Wednesday, March 22, 6PM – GAME NIGHT with English majors and faculty, up in Frost Commons (big comfy meeting space in Frost House). Stay tuned for further enticing details!
Sally Boland Scholarly Essay Prize Deadline
The PSU Sally Boland Essay Prize will be awarded in the Spring for the best scholarly essay or paper which addresses a topic or theme related to Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies as a discipline and/or to the lives and work of women. This could be an essay you wrote for a class (not necessarily an English class), or independently. Deadline: April 16. Prizes: $150 and $100! Details and submission guidelines & instructions below.
